Rainforest house is owned & run by Steve Dungey. Steve, from London, wanted to settle in Rishikesh after falling in love with the area on his first visit in 2000. When he was in London he was running a music production company, producing, publishing and releasing music on record and CD, with world wide distribution. He still maintains his keen musical interest through Pakawaj, learning under the guidance of his guru Santosh Anuraagiji.
Trupti, his wife, is an architect by profession who comes from Bombay and whilst living the city life, at every opportunity went for treks and paragliding on weekends in the mountains of Maharastra.
Both of them having a love and respect for nature, wanted to build a simple, rustic and homely guesthouse in a way that would incorporate and emphasise the natural beauty of the land and surroundings.
There are nine double rooms in Rainforest House, each with its own character & picturesque view of Ganga & the mountains beyond. All the rooms are designed around a central court which has a big mango tree in the middle and there’s a stream flowing adjacent to the property with natural Jacuzzis & waterfalls.
All the rooms are having an ensuite bathroom with hot water and a room heater for the winter months. And no, there are no TVs or phones in the rooms.
Rainforest house is situated in an area known as Neer Gaddu on the main Badrinath road.
It is 6 to 8 hrs drive from Delhi, 30 minutes drive from Jollygrant airport, Dehradun and 45 minutes drive from Haridwar. Taxi pick ups can be arranged on request.
The nearest market place, Tapovan / Laxman Jhula, is 3kms away and Ram Jhula, where the famous arati at Parmarth Niketan takes place, is just another kilometer further on. One must take a taxi to reach Tapovan, otherwise it’s a 40 minute walk on the road or along the river bank on a forest path.
The ground floor rooms share a common verandah outlining the mango tree court on 2 sides, making it a more interactive space. They all are non ac rooms.
This is the corner room on the upper level, a little bigger than the others and the closest to the stream, for that soothing rhythm of the flowing water. The room is with ac and windows on 3 sides.
Being on the upper level these rooms have more privacy with there own individual balconies. All rooms are with ac.
